| Mezzdek P5 - Load-bearing boards for use in humid conditions.
Mezzdek P5 mezzanine is a load-bearing flooring grade chipboard with enhanced moisture resistant properties designed for use in humid conditions. |
Mezzdek P6 - Heavy duty load-bearing boards for use in dry conditions.
Mezzdek P6 is a tough heavy-duty chipboard designed for industrial use. The board has high strength properties, allowing it to withstand specific design loads. Mezzdek P6 38mm is also available with an enhanced foil to meet the requirements of BS 476 parts 6 & 7 to provide Class "0" surface spread of flames. |

General
Mezzdek should be stored in a dry covered area, stacked flat on battens of equal thickness at centres not exceeding 600mm. Ideally the boards should be loose laid on the floor area for a minimum of 24 hours prior to fixing to allow for some acclimatisation. Ideally the building should be at its normal operational condition in terms of relative humidity and temperature.
Joists
Wooden joists treated with water borne preservatives should be allowed to dry out thoroughly before fixing Mezzdek. Moisture ingress may cause localised ridging along joist line and thickness swelling.
Laying Pattern
Mezzdek must be laid at 90 degrees to supports with all short ends ending on a joist or fully supported by noggins. Joints should always be staggered and no board should span less than 3 fixing points. The perimeter of the floor shall be fully supported on joists or suitably fixed noggins.
Fixing
All boards must be securely fastened to each joist/noggin with fixing of a size and type suitable for the design of supporting joists e.g. 50mm 12 gauge self-tapping screws for metal frame fixing or at least No.8 screw of twice the board thickness for wooden joists. Fastenings should be not less than 25mm from the edge of the board. It is recommended that all joints are glued with a suitable adhesive to improve joint strength and reduce risk of squeaking caused by joint variations.

Recommended fixing and layout pattern.
Expansion Joints
An allowance for expansion of 2mm/m run in length and a minimum of 10mm in width must be made at the perimeter of the floor and at any intermediate structures such as walls and columns. It is important this gap is not bridged during completion of other building works. A skirting of suitable size will keep gaps clear. If possible intermediate expansion gaps of 10mm should be installed at 10 metre intervals in the floor ensuring adequate support is made at joints.
Sizes
Mezzdek is available in the following standard sizes:
- Standard square edge or tongued and groove
- 2440 x 600, 2400 x 600 (other sizes available on request)
Carpet & Sheet Floorings
Sonae UK Ltd do not recommend the use of thin sheet flooring or thin carpet as these may allow the board joints beneath to show through particularly after trafficking.
Mezzdek P5 is manufactured in accordance with BS EN 312:2003. Sonae UK Ltd operates a quality system which is registered to BS EN ISO 9001:2000.
